A 9-year-old boy was kicked and punched on camera by a police officer suspected of theft
A nine-year-old boy, trapped on a street in a residential area, is badly beaten by men on bicycles, including an undercover police officer, for allegedly stealing a bicycle in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, video shows.
The incident, filmed by CCTV, happened on Friday afternoon around 1:00 p.m.
An officer from the 6th Special Armed Forces (SAF) Battalion, Ashok Thapa, has been identified as one of the attackers in the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddarth Bahuguna said.

In the video, a man on a bicycle holds the young child as two other men arrive on bicycles. The man in the white vest is seen kicking the child, while the man in the neon T-shirt holds the child by the hair and beats him mercilessly. A man tries to intervene, but is rebuffed by the man in the fluorescent T-shirt. A woman is also seen trying to stop the man, who now has the child on his bike, reverses and walks away.
A case was registered at Ranjhi police station and the constable received a notice of prosecution, police said.
“The officer grabbed the boy near Mastana Square after being informed of a bike theft and beat him. He was charged under Section 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (punishment for willfully caused injury), 294 (obscene act and song) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act,” said Pradeep Pandey, SSP Jabalpur.
