A bomb was thrown at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office at Payyannur of Kannur district in Kerala in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Windows and doors to the office building were smashed following the incident, videos and images shared online show, and chairs fell to the ground.
CCTV video showed the moment the bomb went off. Two assailants on motorbikes had previously scanned the area, captured by CCTV. However, no one was injured as no one was in the office at the time of the attack.
“A bomb was thrown at the RSS office in Payyannur, Kannur district. The incident happened early this morning with the windows of the building smashed in the attack,” Payyannur police said, quoted by the ANI news agency.
The attack also raised concerns because the RSS office is located not far from the police station. Security has been tightened in the area since the incident.
The RSS and BJP leaders suspected the CPI(M)’s role in the attack and called for a high-level investigation. “We suspect the role of the CPI(M) in the attack. In deep trouble after the gold smuggling accused was exposed, the ruling party is resorting to numerous tricks to divert attention,” BJP Kannur District Chairman N Harisdasan said.
An FIR under the relevant provisions of the Explosives Act has been registered and the investigation is continuing to find the culprits, the PTI news agency reported, citing officials.
On June 30, a bomb was thrown against the wall of the CPI(M) state headquarters.
