Man steals high-end camera leased on OLX | Chandigarh News

Panchkula: A resident of Pinjore lost his digital camera worth Rs 80,000 after posting an ad offering it for rental on OLX. The accused contacted the victim using Mohali’s fake address. About four other victims approached the same address as that used by the accused to prepare the false identity.
The victim, Mohit Dhiman, a resident of Pinjore, said he rented his camera when not in use to earn extra money. He said he had put his Cannon 200 Mark D camera with charger and extra lens, worth Rs 80,000, for rent on the OLX website. He said he was contacted by someone who identified himself as Sumit Grewal, who supposedly worked for Tech Mahindra on September 23. The accused said he wanted the camera to cover an event at a private university in Chandigarh. Mohit gave his home address to collect the camera. The accused arrived at his home on September 24 and handed over the driver’s license and Safari car registration certificate issued to Mohali. He also signed the rental agreement. After completing the formalities, he returned the camera to her. However, he said the accused did not return the camera and when he called his cell phone it was turned off.
A day later, he testified that he went to the Phase 11 address in Mohali given by the accused and found that no one by that name lived there. The owner of the house told the victim that he had been contacted by three other people and that the accused had stolen cameras worth Rs 4 lakh.
A case was registered under Articles 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (deception) of the IPC at the Pinjore police station. Other investigations are in progress.
Sub-Inspector Yogdhyan Singh, the investigating officer, said: “CCTV footage shows the accused entering a taxi and going in a different direction than he took when he arrived.”
