Peterborough man jailed after attempted burglary caught on doorbell camera
The occupant of a Leaf Avenue home, Hampton Hargate, woke up on October 24 to find his garden gate was open.
After checking his CCTV cameras, he saw a man in the garden trying on the doorknobs on his house and looking out the windows.
Police have been alerted and the man in the footage has been identified as a known burglar, Vitalijus Beliajevas, 21.
Beliajevas, homeless, was arrested and charged with attempted burglary with intent to steal, which he admitted in court.
On Tuesday, December 14, he appeared in Peterborough Crown Court where he was sentenced to one year in prison, as well as the activation of an eight-month suspended sentence for burglary in Peterborough, bringing his total sentence at one year and eight months.
