The victim, a 70-year-old man, was “very shaken” by the incident which happened around 5.55pm on Wednesday March 2.
His son, Mamta Dhand, told CoventryLive the thief took just under a minute to steal the vehicle.
Mamta said: “My dad was very shaken. His car was a form of his independence to get around and that was taken away from him and when you’re dealing with old age, independence becomes more and more important.
“The cheeky nature in which they came to pick up the car in a busy, daylight area also scared him and feels he was lucky not to have been hurt himself.
“I think now he will always be looking over his shoulder, which is a shame.
“If anyone was in the area at this time and saw anything useful, please let me know.”
